wore it best

aw!  how cute is sara in the vintage dress she snagged from my shop?  i love seeing how gals style pieces i've found while vintage hunting.  last week i shipped summery dresses to girls in chicago, brooklyn, and toronto, and i liked imagining them daydreaming about the arrival of warmer weather in their respective cities.  i spent saturday afternoon adding new items to the shop, and it was so therapeutic... if that makes any sense?  i'll never ever view buying and selling vintage as a chore or job.  it's my my hobby, my happy place, and something that i've loved to do for well over a decade.  this photo made me smile!

visit my vintage shop here, and have a fabulous monday you guys!

rebirth of the cool

three days in new york.  where do i begin?  i guess with two points.  one: it's cute that i expected to take a lot of photos.  once i realized that would require removing my gloved hand from my coat pocket, i got a reality check.  two:  i LOVE my friends.  i know how to pick 'em, i tell you.  huddled in a booth sipping beers and sharing stories as though we were still carefree college sophomores, not mothers, jewelry designers, grant writers, or neuroscientists (seriously.  my best friend's a genius) was magic.

it was cold- 18 degrees at one point- and though mark and i both know the city well, we can never resist the urge to hoof it and explore.  (i'm certain that i'd weigh like 80lbs if i lived there; i want to walk everywhere.)  when we weren't with friends, we played tourist in the best of ways.  took a warm trip to MoMA, and a ride up to the frigid tippy top of rockefeller center for the mother of views.  watched our own breaths as we leaned over the famous ice skating rink, and toasted our second valentine's day together with heavenly doughnut plant concoctions.  took a walk along the high line and through the chelsea market. tried a couple restaurants and coffee shops we'd been reading about, and went to old favorites.  did a smidge of shopping, because, come on.

friend rendezvous aside, the highlight of the weekend for me was the newly opened basquiat exhibition at the gagosian.  my stomach hurts just remembering it now.  so lucky to have stood in a room amidst so much of his work; once in a lifetime deal for sure.  (new yorkers, go!  before april 6th!)

that city has a good chunk of my heart always.  three days was much too short; we're already planning our next trip up and will stay a week or two.  a week or two in the SUMMER.  ;)

brooklyn bound

we're doing it again. despite the million (okay, six) i'm so jealous of your weather comments i get from nyc dwelling friends a day, we're doing it again. we're a-winter chasin'!  boarding a crack of dawn jet blue flight destined for three days of chattering teeth and bundling up tight.  and for hugging my oldest and dearest friends who for one reason or another, all now call brooklyn home.  between mark and me, we have so many close friends who live in new york that we organized a bar party for tomorrow night!  (err- if i didn't invite you, text me.)  we haven't been up there together in over a year, which is just bonkers; i miss my people so much might heart might've popped if i stayed away any longer!!  can you tell i'm excited?  :)  photos and stories next week, for sure.

and for those of you blog cruising this three day weekend, i had fun contributing to jordana's valentine's day gift guide here, and james' want, need, wear, read feature here!  check 'em!

this time last year

this morning we drove to miami for coffee at a favorite spot, lunch at a new-to-us restaurant, and a little window shopping.  (we'll never find the right floor lamp for this living room of ours.)  as with every birthday or new year's eve, valentine's day is cause for me to play "this time last year," and i totally played on the drive back home today.

this time last year i was spending the week here as mark's houseguest, visiting from up north like i had so many times before in the previous six months.  i'd been interviewing for jobs in new york, while mark toyed with selling his place to move up there too.  for february 14th, i knew i wanted to escape winter and hang with him down here, and as always, he showed me THEE best time.  (seriously.)  we brought donuts and coffee to the beach to watch the sun rise, spent hours walking through miami art galleries, window shopped, and lunched in the sun.  it was warm and beautiful; it was our first valentine's day together and it was pretty perfect.  the next night at dinner i looked across the table and told mark, "i'm going to move here instead."  it was this weird epiphany (over enchiladas) that i'll always remember.  weeks later i moved all my wacky clothes into what's now our lamp-less home, and landed a job i'm crazy about within three days.

this time last year i had an a-ha moment that's made me the happiest i've ever been.  i've got my valentine to thank.

pretty in pink

it's been ages since my last pinterest roundup, thanks to all that december dating, international traveling, and general worklife busyness i've had on my plate.  i like to stick images that speak to me here every now and then though, to remember where my eye's gravitating when.  i have definitely been digging on pastels recently, and out of all the colors i wear, live, breathe, etc., they tend to rank lowest on the totem pole for me.  until right now!  wonder what it means.  who's got a color/mood almanac?  is that a thing?  maybe this is my get-rich app inventing opportunity...

(last time it was all so black and white.)

blue sunday

this morning we pulled up to the south florida fairgrounds a half hour after the gates opened.  it's the last day of what's apparently a staple around these parts each year, and i wanted to check it out.  in line to buy our tickets, a man turned around and gave us the extra one he had (i'll be paying that forward)!  so there we were, soaking up some much-needed sunshine under a canvas of the most vibrant blue, with an entire amusement park to ourselves.  it was a dream.  i snapped pictures of every color at every turn, and mark reminisced on his punk kid days riding this and that and eating junk til he puked.  we spent a couple hours there, and left as it started to fill up with families hoping to get some last-day fun in.  until next year, south florida fair!  i liked you.
